Engineering

the Foundation for a Lifetime of Stability

At J & Sons Hardscape & Drainage, we don't just move dirt—we engineer the land. Leveraging three years of Highway-Heavy Mass Grading experience, we bring industrial-grade precision to residential West Metro properties. Whether you are preparing for a new patio or correcting a swampy backyard, our process ensures your land is stable, level, and sheds water exactly where it should.

Why Choose J & Sons

for Your Dirt Work?

Most residential landscapers "eyeball" their grading. Because of our background in Mass Grading for Highway Construction, we understand the physics of soil and the technical requirements of heavy equipment. We don't just "level" your yard; we protect your biggest investment—your home.

GRADING/LEVELING PROCESS

  • A surveying instrument mounted on a tripod at a construction site with a worker blurred in the background.

    Site Analysis

Every successful project begins with data. We use high-precision laser transit levels to map the existing "shot" of your yard. We identify the high and low points to calculate exactly how much fill or excavation is required to achieve a perfect 2% grade away from your foundation.

  • A man operating a small Bobcat skid-steer loader clearing soil and grass in a yard, with trees and residential houses in the background.

    Vegetation Removal

We clear the site of "soft" organic material—grass, roots, and debris—that causes settling over time. Using professional-grade skid steers and excavators, we strip the area down to a "virgin" subgrade, ensuring your new hardscape or turf is sitting on a solid, non-organic base.

  • Close-up of a bulldozer blade on dirt ground in a forested area, with trees and greenery in blurred background.

    Precision Rough Grading

This is where our highway experience shines. We shape the land to create "swales" and slopes that direct water toward catch basins or away from your home. If your project requires a French Drain or dry creek bed, we integrate those systems into the rough grade to ensure seamless water management.

    Final Grade & Seed/Sod Preparation

The final "finish" grade is smoothed to a golf-course quality finish. We apply high-quality screened topsoil and prepare the surface for sod, seed, or pavers. The result is a perfectly leveled yard that looks as good as it drains.
